Biochemistry Faculty Job Within the Defects in SemiConductors (DiSC) group, a position is available for a motivated researcher for experimental research in the field of defects in Cu(In/Ga)Se2 (CIGS) and related materials. Biochemistry Faculty Job Solar cells with a CIGS absorber layer are presently intensively studied because of their high efficiency at low fabrication cost. Although defects in the absorber layer are generally considered as detrimental for the efficiency due to their impact on free carrier lifetime, little is known about their structure and its link with their electrical activity. The Biochemistry Faculty Job project will, on the one hand, focus on defect characterization of actual solar cell structures. Biochemistry Faculty Job On the other hand, large single crystals of CIGS and related materials will be investigated with various spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis and IR absorption and luminescence spectroscopy, electron magnetic resonance, deep-level transient spectroscopy) to obtain a deeper insight in the structure of the dominant electrically active defects in them.

Profile

The Centre for Plasma Astrophysics (CPA) of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) accepts applications for one postodoctoral position within the framework of the SWIFF consortium funded by the European Commission within the FP7 program (swiff.eu). SWIFF encompasses 7 centers in 5 European countries.
The activities will focus on the development of physical-mathematical models, algorithm and software to study multiple scale processes in the solar corona (flares, CMEs), the propagation of the solar wind and its disturbances and the study of the magnetosphere and its connection with solar activity. The work will be theoretical, focusing on linking different fluid models (e.g. Hall MHD or twi fluid with MHD) and fluid with kinetic models. The work will be based on the extensive previous expertise in the field of high performance computing, space science and its application to space weather at the CPA and within the SWIFF consortium.
The selected candidates will have expertise in at least one of the following areas:
Solar physics, Magnetospheric physics,Solar wind,Expertise on computer programming with C, C++ or Fortran,Plasma physics, astrophysics or space physics, Numerical methods for fluid dynamics, MHD and kinetic physics particle in cell methods.

The researchers will have access to large parallel computer facilities and to a stimulating research environment within the CPA and the SWIFF consortium. The researchers will be employed by the K.U.Leuven, but collaborations with other centers of SWIFF are encouraged. Doctoral (Ph.D.) Fellowships

Ph.D. fellows are expected to conduct research leading to a Ph.D. thesis on a topic, country or region, and discipline relevant to AMT. The following PhD position is available.
Detection of protein dynamics using single molecule fluorescence confocal microscopy.

The ability to detect the fluorescence of a single fluorophore has led to great advances in understanding of heterogeneity and dynamics at the nanoscale level in life and material sciences. The specific emission properties of fluorophores like its intensity, decay time, emission wavelength (spectrum) and anisotropy can be used to probe changes in the fluorophores surrounding. For example, fluorescence decay time changes can be used as a powerful tool to monitor quenching and energy transfer processes. A confocal microscope setup will be developed with multiple avalanche photodiodes and a spectrometer (polychromator/CCD camera) that can be used to monitor changes in multiple parameters of the single fluorophore´s emission at the same time, providing a wealth of information. In order to extract as much information as possible, it is important to choose fluorophores with a high absorption coefficient, high fluorescence, low triplet, and low photobleaching quantum yield. For this, organic fluorophores (with and without the presence of photostability enhancing additives, like e.g. ROXS) will be tested and compared with a new class of silver cluster based emitters, attached to proteins in order to determine their photo stability performance. As a test case we will investigate the conformational changes that occur during binding and transport of substrate within the neurotransmitter transporter homologue, LeuT.

Qualifications
A MSc or equivalent degree in a field relevant to the research project and good English skills are required.

PhD Biochemistry Faculty Jobs Studentship Appraising the Impact of Nigeria’s Local Content Policy

The full-time studentship, which includes an element for teaching will be for 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress. Starting bursary will be £20,000 pa plus student fees.

Over $8 billion is spent annually servicing the Nigeria Oil and Gas industry and this figure is projected to hit $15 billion within the next few years. Despite this, only a very little proportion of the accruable profit is spent in Nigeria since the majority of it is repatriated abroad. The major reason for this situation is the low Local Content in the Nigerian oil industry. To address this anomaly the Federal Government of Nigeria in the early 2000s introduced the oil and gas industry Local Content Policy. The policy was aimed at transforming the industry through the development of in-country capacity and indigenous capabilities in the area of manpower development, facilities and infrastructure towards ensuring that a higher representation of local indigenous companies participate actively in the industry. Over the past few years there have been mixed reports among industry regulators and other stakeholders, as to how successful the Local Content policy has been in meeting its aims and policy objectives. PhD proposals are invited to appraise the efficacy of Nigeria's local content policy to adding value to the national economy, in terms of job creation, the development of local infrastructure, the development of small and medium-sized service companies and the utilisation of local input and human resources. The proposal may also be quite specific in terms of examining, for example, the particular impact of the policy on the residents of the Niger Delta area. Potential for good data access through a network of existing/established contacts by the candidate would be an advantage. Proven analytical skills in the processing of qualitative and/or quantitative data, and experience with associated software packages (e.g., EViews, Stata, Nvivo) for such purposes would also be an advantage.

A postdoctoral position for an outstanding and highly motivated candidate with experience in Drosophila genetics and microscopic methods is available in the Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Our laboratory focuses on molecular aspects of how cells polarize with respect to the epithelial plane (http://jennylab.aecom.yu.edu/). Planar cell polarity (PCP) is a feature of a wide variety of epithelia, including the arrangement of feathers on birds, hair on mammalian skin or such elaborate structures as the cilia on inner ear sensory cells essential for hearing. PCP signaling is crucial for the development of many organs and conserved from Drosophila to ascidians and humans. Aberrant PCP signaling can lead to left/right asymmetry inversions, heart and neural tube defects and cystic kidneys. Using the genetic and biochemical tools available with Drosophila as a model system, we study how a directional signal is transmitted and interpreted by individual or groups of cells.

The candidate’s research will benefit from a lively and friendly atmosphere and a strong tradition of collaboration within the College. Albert Einstein College of Medicine is situated in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City and offers ready access to the cultural and recreational opportunities in Manhattan and the greater New York area.

ETSU extends International Scholarship Application deadline

Prospective international students who are interested in attending East Tennessee State University during the fall 2010 term now have until June 24th to apply for the International Students Academic Merit Scholarship. The scholarship is open to new international students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and covers 50% of the total of in and out-of-state tuition. The reward can be used for up to eight semesters for undergraduate recipients, five semesters for recipients seeking a master’s degree, and eight semesters for doctoral students.

Reward lengths for master’s and doctoral students are commensurate with the length of the recipient’s graduate program. The current value of these scholarships is approximately $8,800 per year for undergraduates and approximately $8,100 per year for graduate students. This is an annual scheme made available to all Commonwealth countries by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. The India programme is managed jointly by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU, UK); Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India and the British Council.

The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has announced the COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS PLAN, 2010-UK.

ELIGIBILITY

VISAS
Student visas for the UK will be arranged gratis by the British Council.

AWARD
Master's/M.Phil/ PhD/ six-months clinical training/Fellowship.

FUNDING
University fees, scholar's return travel, allowance for books, apparatus, approved study, travel, personal maintenance (plus allowances, where applicable, for spouse and children). Fixed Research Support Grant in case of research.

Incoming Freshman Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding seniors in high school, the most important in chemistry at Iowa State University plan.
The Clifford C. Hach Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to give financial support for education and especially for scholarships to study chemistry. The scholarship, funded by the Clifford C. Hach Memorial Fund, is paid $ 6000 fund (in two stages) during the first years. The four-year scholarship may be renewed annually until the student remains in good academic standing (3.0 GPA) and is a chemistry major.

Search Criteria

* The recipient must be a citizen of the United States and enrolled as a full-time students who may prefer that the applicants are the State of Iowa
* The selection is based on science, character, cooperation and the pursuit of the students contribute based on the chemical / Teachers
* The recipient must demonstrate a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. When a certain time cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 for a receptor on the recipient receives a unique opportunity for year to win again and get to 3.0 GPA

ACP - Hach Scientific Foundation Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support for scholarships to study chemistry. The fair is an annual $ 6000 *, review and approval by the Board of the Hach Scientific Foundation annually.

Search Criteria

* The recipient must be a citizen of the United States
* The recipient will be focused in the chemical
* The recipient must demonstrate a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. When a certain time cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 for a receptor on the recipient receives a unique opportunity for year to win again and get to 3.0 GPA
* The selection is based on science, character, cooperation and the pursuit of the students contribute based on the chemical / Teachers
* * If the recipient of a Hach Scientific Foundation Chemistry scholarships or grants additional different, the Hach Scientific Foundation Scholarship, the cost of tuition and other fees are reduced.

Period:
All awards below for years, but renewed after a new application and continued adherence to the criteria stipulated above.

Scholarships for chemistry majors

There are also awarded annually to deserving students in the current Department of Chemistry. Students majoring in chemistry may be interested in one of these scholarships.
Bill G. and Beverly A. Jackson Scholarship

Dr. Jackson received his BA in Chemistry in 1953, then earned his doctorate in organic chemistry in 1957 from Iowa State University. Dr Jackson has spent much of his career in the industry with Eli Lilly. This scholarship is given for the means of two criteria: 1) the student should the student in the chemistry major and 2) the student a resident of Iowa, a student must be.
Dr. George E. Felton Equipped Scholarship Fund

Through the educational success of Mr. Felton, in the top 3 percent in the Department of Industrial Sciences (Class of 1931), their research and know-how passed, will make the award based on academic performance. The exhibition is open to all junior majoring in chemistry and may be renewed for the last year.
Chemistry Paul C. Øksnes Scholarships

After leaving school, Paul began working with a local company established that for animals, including preventive antibiotics in food. During this time he became interested in obtaining his degree in chemistry. Paul's passion for a chemist, has assisted in the difficult course, both in the Grand View College and Iowa State University. Upon completion of the ISU, he joined Abbott Laboratories in Illinois. He spent almost 30 years as a chemist for Abbott. Paul hopes that others who seek a degree in chemistry in order to be successful by helping them to this scholarship.
Glen A Russell Memorial Scholarship Chemistry

This scholarship was established by Dr. Martha E. is supported by Dr. Russell and Russell, friends, family and former students of Dr. Glen Russell, long time member of the faculty of Iowa State University's organic chemistry. This scholarship is aimed at advanced students of chemistry who are interested in pursuing as a career.
H. F. plagues Chemistry Scholarships

This scholarship was established by RF and Wanda plagues for outstanding students in the Chemistry Department.
Noble Hines Scholarship in Chemistry

Noble Hines received his Master of Science Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University in 1925. Having worked in the beverage industry for a certain period, where he accepted for his love for education continues to be a position at Long Beach City College in California. Mr. Hines has made provisions for the support of his estate scholarships for students of chemistry at both undergraduate and graduate studies at Iowa State University. This scholarship is open to students with a major in chemistry.
Q. Mr and Mrs R. Thompson Scholarship

Mr. Thompson received his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1948, then for both an MA and Ph.D. to gain from Penn State University in the early '50s. Mr. Thompson continued his love of chemistry with a career in the industry with Eli Lilly. This award is for the funds as needed for two students in the undergraduate chemistry department of chemistry at Iowa State University.
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Scholarships

LAS College Office (202 Catt Hall) is more than 16 years of 05 scholarships for the academic year 2005/06. LAS Scholarship site links to government grants and scholarships and college service websites or homepages. LAS had a website on request online application easy. Students can apply at any time.
